Specification for CL4FIRE Fire Rated Grease Duct
and 1 or 2-Hour Ventilation Air Ductwork

Applicable fire rating standards

  • NFPA-96 – standard for Ventilation Control & Fire Protection for Cooking Operations
  • ULC Standard for Grease Duct Testing
  • ISO-6944 Duct ‘A’ Standard with 1 or 2-hour external duct fire rating
  • ULC-S115-95 – Firestop testing standard
  • ULC-S102 for 25/50 Flame Spread & Smoke Development Rating

Grease Ductwork shall be tested to ULC Canadian internal fire requirements and ISO-6944 Duct ’A’ standard. Product to be listed for both internal and external fire rating. System requires a minimum of 1-layer of CL4FIRE Single Layer Grease Ductwrap insulation per CL4FIRE system CL4/DI-120-01 or alternately 2-layers of CL4FIRE Blue ductwrap insulation installed with snugly butted seams staggered between layers and installed in strict accordance with CL4FIRE system CL4/FRD-PHV/120-02.

1-hour Fire Rated Ventilation Ductwork shall be tested to ISO-6944 Duct ‘A’ standard and consist of 1-layer of CL4FIRE Blue soluble fibre thermal insulation installed with seams snugly butted per CL4FIRE system CL4/FRD-PHV/60-01.

Up to 2-hour Fire Rated Ventilation Ductwork shall be tested to ISO-6944 Duct ‘A’ standard and consist of 1-layer of CL4FIRE Red or Blue soluble fibre thermal insulation installed with 3” overlapped seams per NRC tested and CL4FIRE system CL4/FRD-PHV/120-03.

Emergency generator exhaust systems shall be fire-rated for up to 2-hours using 2-layers of CL4FIRE blue with snugly butted seams staggered between layers and installed in strict accordance with CL4FIRE system CL4/FRD-PHV/120-02. Note: 1st layer to be installed unencapsulated to prevent initial odour associated with heated poly-backed foil scrim.

All firestop of CL4FIRE protected fire-rated ductwork shall be firestopped in strict accordance with CL4FIRE system CL4/PHV 120-01.
